Understanding DISC and Leading Your Team: Building Stronger Teams Through Self-Awareness

Understanding DISC and Leading Your Team: Building Stronger Teams Through Self-Awareness

We are proud to share that our Co-Founder, Alex Wong Wai Chun, facilitated a full-day DISC workshop, “Understanding DISC and Leading Your Team”, for Heads of Department and managers from Gamuda and SRS on 19 October 2026.

The programme was designed for leaders who manage people, projects and stakeholders every day, helping them better understand how they and others prefer to work, communicate and make decisions, especially under pressure.

Making DISC Practical for Everyday Leadership

One of the key objectives of the session was to make DISC practical and relevant to real workplace situations, so that it becomes a tool for better conversations rather than a label.

Throughout the day, participants learned how to read their own DISC reports, notice preferences in what people say and do, and use these insights to work more effectively with their teams.

What the DISC Workshop Covered

The programme covered key areas such as:

  • Understanding communication and why messages are not always received as intended
  • The four DISC styles and how each tends to work, communicate and respond to change
  • Reading the three DISC graphs: the public self, the core self under pressure, and the everyday self-image
  • Naming a profile and understanding why the order of styles matters
  • Mapping and blending styles within a team
  • Recognising how each person’s natural style shows up under stress
  • Applying DISC to influence, coach and resolve conflict

Learning Through Experience

The workshop was highly experiential. Through hands-on team challenges and role-plays, participants experienced first-hand how teams form, how they work together, and how behaviour shifts when the pressure is on, then connected these experiences back to their own DISC profiles.

Leading from the Centre

More importantly, the session encouraged leaders to “lead from the centre”: knowing their natural style well enough to flex when the situation needs it, whether that means energising the team, supporting others to lead, deciding quickly or checking carefully.

We are pleased to have the opportunity to work with the leaders of Gamuda and SRS, and to support them in building stronger communication, better teamwork and more effective leadership.
