e-Invoice: How does revenue changes affect you?
The basis for revenue in determining e-Invoice implementation follows the annual turnover or revenue threshold as per the latest financial statements or tax filings.
Scenario: 2023 Revenue > RM150,000 but 2024 Revenue < RM150,000
• The Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (LHDN) uses the previous year’s revenue as a benchmark.
• If an entity’s 2023 revenue exceeded RM150,000, it is required to implement e-Invoicing according to the relevant phase (based on whether it exceeded RM25M or RM100M).
• If the revenue drops below RM150,000 in 2024, the entity may qualify for an exemption, but LHDN has not explicitly clarified an automatic exemption process.
What Should You Do?
• Check with LHDN: If the current revenue is below RM150,000, it may be possible to apply for an exemption.
• Monitor annual revenue: If the revenue exceeds RM150,000 in the future, e-Invoicing will be mandatory again.
